Letter from the Chief

Welcome to the Glenwood Springs Police Department's website. The task of bringing this website to completion was undertaken by a two-year member of the Patrol Division, Officer Aaron Munch, who has worked tirelessly to design a destination that would provide a quality introduction to our Department.

I think the fact that this website was the project of a young Officer and was contributed to by many people in the Department explains a lot about our philosophy. The GSPD prides itself on being team-oriented and encourages the growth and development of its personnel. Training is aggressively pursued for all levels of personnel, and Officers are encouraged to pursue areas of interest to instructor-level proficiency. We frequently bring training sessions to Glenwood Springs to allow other agencies in the area, and a greater number of our personnel, to benefit from outside expertise.

Glenwood Springs is a very busy community for its population of 8,000, with our daytime and tourist season service population typically reaching 12,000 or more citizens and visitors. We take pride in being a full-service police agency that answers calls for assistance in person. We believe in helping solve problems through our knowledge, resources and understanding. We strongly adhere to the Golden Rule and treat all people we come into contact with in a fair and just manner.

Our region of Colorado is a recreational paradise, with hunting, fishing, skiing, mountain biking, camping, and any other number of outdoor activities available in world-class conditions. We live in a mountain valley that enjoys moderate weather across the spectrum of all four seasons, and is blessed with two beautiful rivers running through the town. Our local economy is supported by a strong core of businesses that serve locals and a large tourist population.

On most Police Department websites I find agencies touting their participation in K-9, School Resource, Investigations, Bicycle Patrol, Drug Task Force, and other programs. These are all part of our services, but what makes us different is our people. We hold high standards and work hard to provide the highest level of quality service to our community. We value our personnel and their contributions to our work. We pride ourselves on being cooperative with other City and law enforcement agencies, and work hard to maintain positive ties with our citizens and guests.

Please enjoy the information on the website. I hope it answers questions, and inspires some as well. If you have questions please feel free to give me a call or e-mail. I think you can see from the information contained in this site that the GSPD is an agency that is people-driven, customer oriented, and just happens to be in a place that is wonderful to live, work and enjoy life in. If you are up for the challenge of being the best, join the GSPD and make a difference!
